Always learning

When mom was on the boat we asked her what surprised her the most about being on a boat.
She replied "The amount of things you need to know"

This got us to thinking. We have been working towards this goal for almost 5 years now. We have been to boat school both for monohulls as well as catamarans. We have been to numerous boat shows and will continue to go to them whenever possible. We have read many books and watched videos and above all- asked questions whenever we sense a person who has some knowledge that we seek.

There are so many things to learn about. "How to sail" being only the beginning. How to live on a boat, how to navigate, how to anchor, and above all- how to fix the many many things that break. We will be doing more studying on electrical systems and diesel engines and sail repair at an upcoming boat show.


For all of the studying that we have done so far we would like to think that we have earned the equivalent of an AA in cruising. There is so much more to learn, and so many people to learn it from. Maybe this is one of the things that really appeals to me about cruising. I like to learn new things!
