Devil's Tower, Wyoming, inextricably linked in my mind to the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It feels very powerful to me and I thoroughly enjoyed hiking around it.
Trying to avoid the crowds we camped in the park and got up early to go exploring.
We arrived early enough to see the sun peeking over the tower.
Walking around the tower I was amazed at the different views.
Along the trail we were given very important life messages.
The boulder field was the dividing line. You are allowed to climb on the boulders, but no further without a permit.
We enjoyed watching the climbers. Can you find the three climbers in this picture, including the one spread eagle in the crevasse?
Now I have to watch the movie again!
