Consistency at Customs

Ahh, Customs, checking in and out of countries, gotta love it. It is so nice to be able to count on the consistency of governments. Rules are rules, right?

Oh, wait - that must have been in some other reality.

When checking in and out of countries you never know what they will expect from you, even if you return to the same port, and sometimes encounter the same people!

Sometimes they insist on knowing where the boat is, sometimes they don't care.
Sometimes you have to fill out a form one way, and the next time another person will want it filled out differently.
Sometimes they want you to file a "float plan", sometimes they don't care.

Then you run into the officials that are irritated that you don't know exactly what they want you to do.

The trick is to try to hit the Customs Office when they are empty. Early in the day, or any time that a ferry has not just pulled in. (This is what happens when it is crowded)

And smile, change what you wrote on the form (even though what you had filled out had been carefully explained to you last time), and move on.

There are beaches to explore, breezes to sail, reefs to dive.

Onward.

We love to hear your comments.

Sounds very familiar, but even with all the hassles...we do love traveling, don't we!!

Yes, we do. The exploration and the new experiences make all the hassles and inconveniences worthwhile.
