Stuff

Downsizing to get on a boat. Exciting, frustrating, exhilarating, depressing, and that is just the first five minutes of thinking about it.

It is amazing how much crap you can accumulate. Our society is so geared to consumerism.
Buy this and you will feel better. Buy that and you will look better. Buy our product and you will be thinner, richer and happier. Then, when you make the decision to move onto a boat everything has to be reevaluated.  Will we need it? Will we want it? Does someone else want it? Can we do without it? What about family heirlooms? Pictures? Art? Treasures of varying value, childhood memories, things we have worked so hard to accumulate over the years. Things we have enjoyed having in our lives. Now it is time to make the hard choices.

Garage sale weekend. It is so amusing to watch what people are interested in and what they are willing to pay for things. It is so arbitrary. One woman found a book she was interested in.
"How much?" she asked.
"50 cents" I replied.
She made a face. "how about a quarter? "
"Fine." I replied.

Today another woman was looking a books. "How much for these two?"
"Two dollars each"
"Here, take $5, they are worth more than that"

This is the goal:

Actually-

This is the goal. We just have a few intermediate steps to get there.

Time to let go...
